My Dad sometimes used creativity to encourage hard work back on our Indiana farm. Well, I've been trying the same thing with my kids. I think "this time" they enjoyed taking the trash out.
FYI - the owner of our house burns all the trash on the same compound where we live - so it's nice to not have to pay for trash service (at least until my kids figure out the allowance thing).
